SIOPE ATRT01
An international clinical study for children and adolescents with atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumours
Atypical teratoid and rhabdoid tumours (ATRT) are rare, highly aggressive cancers of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The disease affects mainly very young children under 22 months of age. Although the outlook for patients with ATRT has improved in recent years, overall outcomes remain poor despite intensive treatment. SIOPE ATRT01 is an international treatment optimisation study. The study was designed for children and adolescents to advance treatment, increase cure rates, and minimise side effects. The study is designed to address several key questions regarding the treatment of ATRT. One key question is whether high-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplantation can be as effective as radiotherapy while causing fewer long-term side effects.
